HealthConnect is going green!

October 9, 2008 at 2:35 am 2 comments

Welcome to HealthConnect’s green blog!

HealthConnect has just started a new company-wide initiative to reduce CO2 emissions and conserve our Earth’s resources. We are extending this program to our clients to encourage everyone to adopt a similar program.

We would like this blog to serve as a discussion forum for all involved in our initiative, so feel free to ask questions, describe success stories or challenges or provide ideas to make the program even better.

Don’t forget to also check out helpful links to a variety of websites supporting and promoting green initiatives.

Here at Healthconnect, in one year we have saved $13,612 by purchasing two Toyota Prius as company cars for two of our sales force. That equates to 526 gallons of fuel that was not purchased/consumed.

Ifyou think about it, if everyone in the United States purchased a hybrid that gets at least 40 miles per gallon we as a country could reduce our dependence on fossil fuel by a signficant amount.

We have been converting one of our offices to a paperless office over the past year. We no longer print out faxes, more than half of our monthly invoices are emailed, our marketing department has created marketing videos which has significantly cut down on our consumption of paper products, our client files are all electronic, etc. We have saved over $7,000 in the past year by consuming less paper, toner and postage and implementing our Green Program in our Fresno, CA office and have consumed 98,000 sheets of paper less than the previous year!

It has also streamlined internal requests for documents. By creating electronic client files on servers accessible by other offices we no longer have to respond to inquiries from employees in other offices to send them copies of contracts, etc. Not only have we been saving money, but we are better utilizing our internal resources (our people’s time).
